Buying a Condo is Easier than Buying a Single Family Home…Right?
Contrary to popular belief, buying a condominium is not simpler or easier than buying a traditional single family home. In fact, buying a condo is a far more complex, time consuming and detail laden process. Still owning a condo, for many, can provide just the right mix of the benefits of owning, where you have an opportunity to gain equity versus the benefits of renting, where you are not responsible for maintaining the exterior of your home.
Top Reasons for Buying a Condo
Whether you are a buying your very first home or downsizing to a more manageable lifestyle, here are the top reasons for buying a condo.
- Better Amenities – Many condominium complexes have swimming pools, fitness centers, tennis courts, a club house and other facilities that would be cost prohibitive for most single family home owners.
- Personal Security – Concerned about safety? Many condos have keyed entries, gates and even door attendants. Plus, you’ll be closer to other people in case of an emergency.
- Assigned Parking – Most condos come with assigned parking, often garages, even visitor parking, so no more driving around the parking lot at your apartment complex in search of a space.
- Ease of Maintenance – Outside maintenance is not your job. Career oriented professionals and seniors typically don’t have the time or inclination to do the repairs and upkeep to preserve the value of the property.
- Tangible Value – Since the proportionate amount of land owned separately is far less than a single family home, you’ll probably see that a condo is physically nicer than a comparably priced single family home. Of course, the trade off is you won’t have a yard as you would in a single family home.
