
Our own hometown of Belmont, CA made #11 on Forbes’ Top 25 Towns in America to Live Well published last month. With a population of 24,625 and a median income of $102,466, Belmont received high scores in the emerging businesses category and has attracted $878 per capita in venture funding according to the report. Belmont also scored in the top 25% of towns with its number of bars and restaurants. (Some of our favorites include The Iron Gate, The Vans and Caprino’s.
Why Didn’t Belmont Make the Top 10?
Although the BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics) scored Belmont high for professionals and business start-ups, the scores weren’t high enough to kick Belmont into the top 10. Read more about Belmont on Forbes.com.
Foster City, However, Did Make the Top 10

With a population of 29,081 and a median income of $119,780, Foster City is home to many large companies, big and small from Visa, Gilead Sciences, Sony and Sling Media to name a few. Foster City ranks #1 for number of highly skilled tech workers and is in the top five of patents per capita.
What They Didn’t Like About Foster City
According to the researchers, Foster City lacks cultural institutions and restaurants, though it has plenty of office parks. Read more about Foster City on Forbes.com.
Any Other Bay Area Cities Make the List?
Not surprisingly, several other Bay Area cities made the list. Hillsborough was #12, Mountain View was #4 and Cupertino came in at #5. Check out the entire article, America’s Top 25 Towns to Live Well.
Which Categories Were Considered?
Town in this study was defined as any city, township, borough or town in the United States with less than 100,000 residents. Specific categories studied included median income, average commute, distance to highways and airports, factors indicative of a favorable business environment, percentage of college educated residents, and number of bars, restaurants, museums and cultural institutions.
