Kudos to the Belmont Police Department for hosting a Public Community Forum on October 22, 2009. The forum was held in the City Council Chambers and also was also televised so the community watching at home could participate and ask questions via Twitter. Yes, our Police Department is now on Twitter: @belmontcapolice.
Belmont Police Department Wants to Learn from Residents
This was the first ever community forum in Belmont which was inspired by citizen advisory boards in other communities. However, rather than just having 4-5 community advisors weigh in, Chief Mattei and Captain De Schmidt wanted to involve the entire community so they could not only inform Belmont residents about what is going on, but learn from Belmont residents as well.
Have Input on How Belmont PD Can Improve Service? Tell Them!
Chief Mattei addressed the community telling us the “best insurance you have is each other. The police are the public and the public are the police.” Chief Mattei passed out a survey and asked for our input of what we wanted our police department to be and how they could improve service to the community. He also discussed various community programs designed to improve the quality and safety in Belmont such as Safe Schools, National Night Out and Neighborhood Watch.
Additional officers gave reports and statistic on crime, traffic and staffing. Frankly I was impressed on how much is done with the amount of staff the Belmont Police Department is allocated.
View the Recorded Webcast and Download the Survey
You can view the entire Belmont Community Forum webcast. It is well worth the time. You can also download a survey to give the Belmont Police Department your direct input.
Please Take the Time to Return the Survey and Weigh In
What do you want the police to do in Belmont? What is most important to you? The Police Department took the time and made a sincere effort to reach out to the public with this community forum. I say we should do our part by taking the time to give them our input. We can do that by filling out the survey and supporting them in future community forums.
Thanks to Belmont PD for Their Dedication to Belmont
It is rare to see a Police Department come directly to the community in this manner. I believe the leadership of Chief Mattei who takes the position of public servant to heart is responsible for this approach. So thank you Chief and Belmont PD. I commend your dedication to the citizens and community of Belmont.
