There doesn’t seem to be very many places to watch sports in San Mateo, so when we came across the 3rd Ave Sports Bar and Grill in Downtown San Mateo, I was thrilled.

At the beginning of the college football season, we were looking for somewhere to go on Saturdays that Chris could watch his beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish while the rest of us could watch the other games. We had been going to the Old Pro in Palo Alto, but their food took a huge tumble and we were looking for something a bit closer. So, we headed over there to check it out.

Review of the Food at 3rd Ave Sports Bar and Grill

I was pleasantly surprised by the food at the 3rd Ave Sports Bar and Grill. My favorite is their cheeseburger. They have skinnyish battered fries that are really good. I don’t know what it is about their cheese, but it is also very good. Another plus is they will cook your burger rare if you ask them!

I have also had their nachos, a few different sandwiches and appetizers and all have been solid. Not gourmet offerings, but decent, well-priced food. You can also order Amici’s Pizza from next door if you’d prefer to have pizza.

Number of TV’s and Games Played

When our game hasn’t been on one of their TV’s, they’ve always been very accommodating to find the game we wanted to see. It seems they have every single sports channel and show games from all around the country.

Big Crowd on Sundays

Although we are more college football people, we went once on Sunday and it was packed. It seems to be the place in San Mateo to watch NFL football.
