Joy Sushi San Mateo

Joy Sushi Downtown San Mateo

Joy Sushi, located at 30 S B Street in Downtown San Mateo, is one of the better places in San Mateo to get sushi rolls. I like to go there for dinner, but you should get there early if you don’t want to wait.

How’s the Food at Joy Sushi?

Joy Sushi Downtown San MateoMy favorite thing to eat at Joy Sushi is their Island Roll with tempura shrimp, crab meat, salmon and lemon topped with Joy’s special sauce. Whether your choose it, or another roll, they are all around $10 and include soup and salad. You really can’t beat it. Chris likes their Kirin beer which is only a couple of bucks too. If you’re with a group, even better. You can order several rolls and share!

I’ve tried their bento boxes, which are good, but not as good as their rolls. I like the bento boxes from Liquid Sushi in San Mateo a bit better so I tend to go here for sushi rolls and Liquid Sushi if I feel like having a bento box.

Joy is a Very Popular San Mateo Restaurant so Get There Early

I’m not the only one who enjoys eating at Joy Sushi. If you get there around 7pm, you’ll have a wait for sure, especially on the weekend. People usually eat pretty fast though, so even if you have to wait, it shouldn’t be too long. Make sure to find the list and write your name on it. Usually, the staff is quite busy serving the people who are eating, so it is up to you to put your name on the list.

Incidentally, Yelpers also like Joy Sushi, giving Joy Sushi 4/5 starts.

Parking at Joy Sushi

Sushi Downtown San MateoAs with any Downtown San Mateo restaurant, parking can be a bit tricky. What I like to do is use the garage underneath the Hayward Park train station where you can park for free after 6pm. It is only a 3 minute walk to the restaurant and there are always plenty of spots available.

Try Joy Sushi Next Time You’re in Downtown San Mateo

Next time you’re in Downtown San Mateo, try Joy Sushi. It is located at 30 S B Street, San Mateo. Their phone number is 650-340-8974. Yelp says they take reservations, though I’ve never tried myself to make one.
