The phrase “Village of Belmont” is a more apt description than City of Belmont and that’s the way the city’s fathers like it. A community without a downtown, some parts funky – severe slopes and winding roads – and some parts country – no curbs or sidewalks – Belmont possess a unique ambiance that sets it apart from other Mid-Peninsula cities with an eclectic mix of housing and neighborhoods.
Belmont Appeals to Those Looking for Something a Bit Different
Belmont is not your parent’s early track home development. They City of Belmont appeals to those looking for something a bit different. Open space, views and a top-shelf school system attract young families and professionals who want elbow room and a picturesque area that was once the summer playground of San Francisco’s early 1900s new wealth. Belmont can be breezy especially along the western, higher elevations.
Transportation To/From Belmont
Freeway access is excellent as is rail service to SF and SJ. Shopping is convenient: Belmont Village Center and the Carlmont Shopping Center serve residents well. Belmont is village casual combined with availability to all the features and amenities active families and professionals desire.
Belmont Won’t See Much New Construction
No real new construction with only a small amount of in-filling, Belmont is generally considered to be built out. The few remaining vacant lots are essentially unbuildable. Severe building restrictions and an arduous approval process discourages growth, so housing values are not diluted by new home developments. Few extravagant, overtly impressive homes can be found; most are California laid-back. The Hallmark area is considered by most, Belmont’s most upscale neighborhood.
